In the world of Pilates, some pieces of equipment have remained virtually unchanged for decades. The Pilates ring, often referred to as the magic circle, is one of them. Now, British wellness brand Onyx is giving the studio staple a sophisticated redesign, blending elevated aesthetics with carefully engineered performance to create a product that feels as at home in a luxury studio as it does in a thoughtfully designed living space.

The newly launched Onyx Pilates Ring has been developed with both comfort and functionality in mind. Unlike traditional rings, which can often feel rigid and awkward during longer sessions, the Onyx design introduces signature pill-shaped handles that contour naturally to the body. The wider surface area provides improved weight distribution and enhanced control, helping users move seamlessly through everything from inner-thigh squeezes to standing arm sequences and palm presses.

What immediately sets the ring apart is its attention to tactile detail. The ultra-soft, high-density foam cushioning measures 1cm thick, around 40 per cent thicker than many standard Pilates rings, creating a noticeably more comfortable experience during floor work and repetitive movements. Extending through to the fingertips, the contoured grip has been designed to keep hands secure without discomfort, even during high-repetition sessions.

Performance has also been carefully considered. Constructed using premium-grade rubber and a durable fibreglass inner ring, the Onyx Pilates Ring is engineered to maintain consistent resistance through thousands of repetitions. The resistance itself has been deliberately calibrated to sit firmer than much of the current market while remaining accessible for all fitness levels, striking what the brand describes as the ideal balance between challenge and usability.

Available in all five of Onyx’s signature colourways, the ring has been designed with interiors in mind just as much as workouts. Every element, from the foam and rubber to the connecting hardware, has been colour matched to the brand’s muted, contemporary palette. The result is fitness equipment intended to be displayed proudly rather than tucked away after use.

The launch has already drawn praise from respected figures within the Pilates industry. Lisa Lamberti described the product as a welcome evolution of the classic magic circle, saying: “After 26 years of teaching Pilates I consider myself to be one who delivers on excellence, and I like the equipment I use to demonstrate the same excellence. Finally, there’s a magic circle to join me in my statement. Thank you Onyx.”

Founded by London-based interior designer Alison Banks, Onyx has built a reputation for merging wellness with contemporary design. Drawing on more than three decades of experience creating refined residential and hospitality interiors, Banks recognised a growing demand for fitness equipment that could complement modern homes without compromising on quality or performance.

That philosophy runs throughout the Onyx collection. Alongside its sculptural Pilates ring, the brand has become known for its curved yoga mats, weighted ankle and wrist accessories, resistance bands, hand weights and reimagined Pilates balls, all designed with soft silhouettes, calming colour palettes and studio-level durability.

As wellness spaces increasingly become extensions of the home, brands like Onyx are reshaping expectations around fitness equipment, proving that functionality and design no longer need to exist separately. With the launch of its Pilates Ring, the brand continues its mission to bring style, comfort and performance together in one seamless experience
