Christmas outfits work hard for a few short weeks. Children wear them for the nativity photos, the family dinner and the frosty walk on Boxing Day, and then they’ve often outgrown them by spring. Swedish childrenswear label PO.P (Polarn O. Pyret) has taken a different approach with its new festive range for babies and children up to ten. The knits, partywear and baby pieces are designed to stay in the family long after the decorations come down, and the brand says each one is made to be worn by at least three children.

Knits for cold days out

Jumpers are the backbone of the collection. The designs include dogs in festive hats, wide-eyed deer, a dog on skis and a classic Nordic pattern, so there’s something for children who love a bit of fun and for those who prefer a traditional look. They’re made from PO.P’s signature organic cotton, which keeps them soft against the skin and sturdy enough for muddy park trips and long afternoons of play. Parents also know these knits will cope with repeated washing, which matters if a jumper is going to be passed on to a younger sibling or cousin next year.

Smart enough for the party, comfortable enough to play

For dinners, visits and Christmas parties, the partywear brings together striped co-ords, the brand’s popular velour dresses and classic pinafores. Cheerful prints run through the range, with cherries, hearts and gingham. The pieces are cut to let children run, dance and climb without fuss, and the fabrics are chosen to keep looking smart wash after wash, so a party outfit can do the rounds well into the new year.

A first Christmas

The baby range will appeal to anyone getting ready for a little one’s first festive season. Red and navy striped sets and baby grows carry a small heart appliqué, and there are cosy sets in cherry and winter dog prints. Festive gingham comes in dresses, bodysuits and shirts for babies, with matching styles for older brothers and sisters, which makes coordinated family photos easy to put together. The practical details will be familiar to tired parents, too. Many of the baby grows have extendable poppers to give extra growing room, and shoulder openings make changes quicker.

And for bedtime

The family pyjamas are back this year in seven prints, from zip sleepsuits for the youngest to two-piece sets for older children and adult sizes for parents. They’re made in certified organic cotton and have roll-down cuffs to allow for a growth spurt or two.

Clothes that outlast the season

PO.P has been making children’s clothes since 1976, and its focus on durability is backed by buy-back and rental schemes. That’s reassuring for families who would rather invest in fewer, better pieces than buy a new outfit every December.

The Christmas collection is now available in shops and online at polarnopyret.co.uk, with new styles added each week.
