A New Magical Escape: Discover Suffolk’s Hidden Woodland Playground
WHAT'S ONTRAVEL

If you are always on the hunt for ways to tire the children out while enjoying the fresh air, I have some brilliant news. A brand new woodland adventure playground is opening right here in Suffolk, and it looks like the perfect spot for our next family outing.
Set within the beautiful, ancient grounds of the Helmingham Estate, a new play space called Guildenacre is set to open its gates on Saturday 27th June. It is not your average local park; this is an immersive experience designed by the experts at CAP.CO, who are world-renowned for building incredible, nature-focused play areas.
Adventure Awaits in the Trees
The playground is tucked away inside a four-acre wood and is split into four distinct zones. Each area is themed around a guardian animal, making it feel like a proper storybook adventure. You will find:
The Elderglade: This is the big one. It is packed with everything a child needs to burn off energy, including climbing walls, tunnels, ladders, multi-level walkways, and some serious slides for racing down.
Eira the Owl’s Canopy Keep: Tucked high up in the trees, this is perfect for those who want to feel like they are exploring the bird's-eye view of the forest.
Flint’s Hollow: Named after Flint the Badger, this area is all about the ground level, featuring plenty of burrows and tunnels to crawl through.
Vex the Vixen’s Ember Den: Designed specifically with older children in mind, this area offers a bit more challenge.
Whether your children are little adrenaline junkies who want to hit the zip line and scale the climbing walls, or if they prefer a quieter day of exploring, walking across bridges, and using the talking tubes, there really is something for everyone. There is even a stargazing deck and a den-building zone where they can try their hand at constructing their own hideouts.
Making a Day of It
It is always a relief when you know a venue has been planned with parents in mind. The areas are all linked by bark pathways, so you can navigate the woods easily. If you forget the snacks, there is a handy refreshment kiosk on-site.
For a more substantial break, head over to the updated Wades Barn. It is a lovely Grade II listed building that now houses a kitchen run by the team from The Black Dog Deli. There is also a retail space and toilets, plus a new car park that is free for Guildenacre visitors to use.
The Details
Guildenacre is opening for weekends starting from Saturday 27th June. During the school summer holidays, it will be open every single day from Saturday 18th July until Monday 31st August.
The team behind the project has also decided to pass on savings from recent VAT changes, meaning ticket prices have been reduced for the summer.
If you book online in advance before 31st August:
Children (aged 5+): £11.50
Adults: £8.00
Children (aged 3+): £6.00
Under 3s: Free
Tickets are also available on the day at the gate for a slightly higher price (£13 for children 5+, £9.50 for adults, and £7.50 for children 3+).
It sounds like a wonderful way to create some new family memories this summer. If you want to keep an eye on updates or book your visit, you can find all the information you need at www.guildenacre.co.uk.
