A Fresh Start for Spring: Simple Health Resets

As winter finally loosens its grip and brighter mornings begin to return, spring brings with it a natural urge to reset. It is the season of fresh starts, lighter evenings and a quiet sense of possibility. It is also a timely moment to take stock of our health, especially for women, who so often put everyone else first.
Recent national dietary surveys suggest that many women are not meeting recommended intakes of key minerals such as iron, magnesium and iodine through diet alone. Add in busy schedules, hormonal changes and the mental load that comes with modern life, and it is little wonder that wellbeing can start to slide down the priority list.
Nutritionist Jo Meadows, who specialises in women’s health, has teamed up with women’s health brand Benefit Juice to encourage a more realistic, compassionate approach to wellbeing. Her philosophy is refreshingly simple: small, consistent changes can make a powerful difference.
“Whatever your age or life stage, nutrition underpins everything,” she explains. “It influences our energy, mood, hormones, immunity and long term health. You do not need perfection. You just need progress.”
Here are her six gentle, practical ways to spring clean your health.
1. Small changes make a big difference
If vegetables rarely feature on your plate, start by adding just one portion a day. If your phone has become your constant companion, trade ten minutes of scrolling for a short walk. These tiny shifts add up. A glass of Benefit Juice, enriched with vitamins and minerals, is also an easy way to support a balanced diet and tick off one of your five a day, even on your busiest days.
2. Stock up on frozen fruit and veg
Frozen and tinned fruit and vegetables, especially low sugar or low salt varieties, are just as nutritious as fresh and often more affordable. They also reduce waste. Try adding tinned lentils or chickpeas to a curry for extra fibre, or pairing tinned peaches with Greek yoghurt for a quick snack. These are smart, flexible options that fit into real life.
3. Put fibre first
Most of us only get around half the fibre we need. Fibre supports gut health, digestion, heart health and steady energy levels, and may even play a role in mood regulation. Switching to wholegrain pasta and bread, and adding oats, beans, nuts, seeds and colourful fruit and vegetables into your meals can make a noticeable difference. You may also find you stay fuller for longer.
4. Choose strength over skinny
Building muscle is one of the best investments you can make for long term health. It supports healthy ageing, blood sugar control and bone strength. You do not need a gym membership to start. Try doing as many push ups a day as you can, even on your knees, and build gradually. Progression and consistency matter far more than intensity.
5. Prioritise sleep
A YouGov poll found that one in five of us typically gets only six hours of sleep a night, well below the recommended seven to nine. Sleep is when the body repairs, rebuilds and resets. It strengthens the immune system, supports emotional regulation and improves decision making the next day. Better sleep often leads to better choices across the board.
6. Protect your heart
Cutting back on saturated fats such as processed meats, butter, coconut oil, cakes and crisps can help lower cholesterol. Instead, choose unsaturated fats from olive oil, nuts, seeds and oily fish. Reducing salt and flavouring food with herbs and spices is another simple heart healthy habit.
Supporting women through every stage
The Benefit Juice Women’s Health range has been designed to support general health and wellbeing through menstruation, as well as key life stages such as pregnancy and menopause. Created in collaboration with Jo Meadows, the juices are made with 100 per cent fruit and vegetables, contain no added sugar and are vegan friendly. The range includes three products: Menopause, Pregnancy and Wellness.
There is something quietly powerful about women choosing to care for their own health with the same attention they give to everyone else. As spring unfolds and conversations around women’s strength, resilience and self worth naturally come to the fore, this season offers a chance to begin again, gently and on your own terms.
Benefit Juice’s Women’s Health range is available nationwide. The 750 ml chilled juice is available in Tesco at an RRP of £4.00, and the 900 ml ambient carton is available in Waitrose at an RRP of £4.50 and Holland and Barrett at an RRP of £4.99. For more information, visit thebenefitbrand.com.
Because a fresh start is not about doing everything at once. It is about doing one kind thing for yourself, and then another, and letting that be enough.
